Community Center Preschool

The Community Center Preschool provides a warm, safe, and nurturing atmosphere with a wide variety of age-appropriate activities designed to promote the social, intellectual, physical, and emotional aspects of learning. Teachers create an environment for the children to learn through active exploration and discovery. Manipulative toys, creative experiences, group time, floor toys, blocks, paints, play dough, sand and yard play are examples of what is offered on a daily basis.

Our students also enjoy fun and educational enrichment programs such as a Gardening Program, Animal Visits, and weekly Music & Movement classes with instrument exploration. After school students can enjoy lunch with their friends during “Lunch Bunch”, take dance, music, ceramics, and sports classes at the adjacent Community Center Main building, and enjoy extra playtime during extended care until 3:30 pm. Themed summer camp is also available.

Our History

The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge was built entirely by volunteers in 1951. The first Executive Director, Gilbert “Smitty” Smith, donated his home to become the Community Center Preschool a few years later. The Community Center and Preschool have served the needs of thousands of children and adults, offering a variety of enriching, recreational, and educational opportunities for members of the La Cañada community and surrounding areas for over 70 years.
